Pennyroyal, English

Mentha pulegium LAMIACEAE
Used in the same manner as American pennyroyal. Medicinal: The dried leaves can be used to prepare a tea to be used as a carminative, diaphoretic, and to promote menstruation, but is probably best avoided. Warning: Pennyroyal oil has historically been used as an abortifacient, but often with toxic consequences. Pennyroyal leaves or oil can be used as an insect repellent, but the oil should be applied to the clothing, not the skin.
