[Introduced by Univ. of Connecticut, about 1950.] Ornamental dark purple basil used like common basil for seasoning. Dark purple leaves have a metallic green undertone or sheen in bright light, and plants may occasionally produces a few green leaves. Beautiful on salads. Slow to flower and holds well.
